Octorara Middle School students are being recognized for their creativity and collaboration after earning the Viewer’s Choice Award in the regional “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” competition.
The project, completed by a team of 8th-grade students, began in November as part of an initiative to connect students with real-world career pathways. This year, the team was partnered with JGM Fabricators, a manufacturing company located in Coatesville.
As part of the experience, students visited the JGM Fabricators facility, where they had the opportunity to see the manufacturing process firsthand. During their visit, they interviewed members of the company’s team and captured video footage throughout the site, gaining insight into the skills, technology, and teamwork involved in modern manufacturing.
Following the visit, students worked collaboratively to transform their footage into a two-minute video that tells the story of JGM Fabricators. From planning and filming to editing and production, the project allowed students to develop valuable skills in communication, storytelling, and digital media.
The award-winning team includes Jack Bierlein, Robert Kerstetter, Jack McGinnis, Andrew Mitman, Avery Remphrey, and Claire Sours.
The Viewer’s Choice Award is especially meaningful, as it reflects strong community support and engagement with the students’ work.
This recognition highlights not only the students’ hard work and creativity, but also the importance of partnerships that bring classroom learning to life.
