Last evening, Octorara’s board of school directors approved the attached revised academic calendar for the upcoming school year. This revised calendar designates Tuesday, September 8, 2020 as the first student day of the 2020-2021 school year. The school year will conclude on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. This action was recommended by district leadership to ensure our school community is fully prepared to implement a reopening plan to ensure students and staff are able to come to school in the fall. Such a plan must be created in accordance with guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Department of Health, and the Governor’s office.
The agenda for the July 20th committee and board meetings will include an overview of Octorara’s Health and Safety Plan, being crafted by a pandemic team this summer to ensure every aspect of district operations (classroom instruction, athletics, extra-curricular activities, transportation, and facility use) complies with guidance provided by local and state authorities. The plan must be approved by the board of directors and posted to the district’s website before administration is permitted to reopen the campus to the public. Octorara’s reopening is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, July 21st. In the interim, all school buildings will remain closed through Monday, July 20, 2020. During this time, only essential personnel will continue to report for work. All visits to campus to conduct school business must be pre arranged by appointment only.
Please contact the district office at 610-593-8238 should you have questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued support of the Octorara Area School District.
