Octorara Area School District Special Education Plan Report 7/1/2020 - 6/30/2023
March 20, 2020
Dear Octorara School Community,
Chapter 4 of Pennsylvania’s School Code specifies planning requirements for school entities. A school entity is defined as local education provider (e.g., public school district, charter school, cyber charter school, AVTS, or Intermediate Unit). As such, every three years, the Octorara Area School District must develop and submit to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) a plan for providing special education services to students. The Special Education Plan must be made available for public inspection and comment for 28 days. After which it can be approved by the board of school directors and submitted to PDE for final approval
Octorara’s public inspection and comment period begins on Friday, March 20, 2020 and extends through Friday, April 17, 2020. All stakeholders are invited to review the plan and forward questions and comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note, due to unforeseen circumstances as a result of the prolonged school closure caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Octorara’s Special Education Plan continues to be a work in progress. As such it has not been fully vetted by the Special Education Comprehensive Planning Committee as listed on pages 2 and 3. Please be aware that pages 15 through 34 do not yet accurately reflect the district’s Special Education Profile (programs and staffing levels) as they exist during the current school year.
Be assured that revisions to the document will be made until the final copy is approved by the board of school directors on Monday, April 20, 2020. The board approved document will then be submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education by Friday, May 1, 2020, a deadline that must be met per state and federal law.
Thank you for your continued support of the Octorara Area School District.
