Dr. Jim Scanlon proudly serves as interim superintendent of the Octorara Area School District.
He has 22 years of experience as a superintendent, including twelve years as superintendent in the West Chester Area School District (retiring in August 2021), three years as superintendent in
the Brandywine School District in Wilmington, Delaware, and seven years as superintendent in the Quakertown Community School District.
He earned a Master’s Degree and Educational Doctorate with Distinction from Temple University in Philadelphia. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He has also served as an elementary principal, district curriculum director, and
assistant superintendent for secondary schools. He taught for eight years in elementary and middle school in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
He lives with his wife and their two sons who currently attend middle school. He believes his experience as a parent gives him a valuable perspective when making decisions about students and families.
